Book Summary:
David Brooks has written an absolutely fascinating book about how we form our emotions and character. In The Social Animal, he makes the recent revolution in neuroscience understandable, and he applies it to those things we have the most trouble knowing how to teach: What is the best way to build true relationships? How do we instill imaginative thinking? How do we develop our moral intuitions?
Our Cocktail Party Statements:
Aaron: The unconscious mind has absolute power
Karin: Reason is the slave of the passions
Phil: The human mind can be pragmatic because deep down it is romantic

Good show! I like the three distinct voices – I can even tell Aaron and Phil apart most of the time by now. I would like to hear anyone wo’s talking get to finish her whole thought even if you couldn’t get in as many topics. I do like the quick exchanges and all the parts of the show. They all work and have. More and less fun or seriousness.
It’s great that you all liked this book – pros and cons were personal and original. I might read my forest David Brooks book.
